The Best Non-Discount Emails You Can Send

The Inbox Newsletter

Hey it's Max from The Inbox Newsletter.

Most ecom brands lean WAY too hard on discounts.

The default move when revenue dips is to send another sale… but it's the fastest way to demolish your margins and train your list to wait around for the next promo.

Today I'm walking you through the 5 best non-discount emails you can send instead.

Let's break it down.

The Long Form Testimonial

Nobody reads short, tiny testimonials.

But when a customer sees someone going through a real emotional transformation in your testimonial, they buy into it hard. They see themselves on the other side of the journey, and read every single word.

These crush as ad creative too, and they're insanely easy to make. Just let your customers do the selling for you!

The Restock Email

Something went out of stock and now it's back.

Even if customers didn't care about the product before, FOMO kicks in the second they see it restocked.

The best part is that you don't actually need a product to go out of stock to send this either…

If you just got a fresh shipment in, or you just want to push a specific SKU, a simple "Hey, this just got restocked!" angle is more than enough.

The Founder OR Product Story

People will always want to buy from people.

A plain-text email that looks like it's coming from a real human always stands out in an inbox full of branded marketing emails.

Tell a story, share the vision, and let the product mention come naturally at the end.

It hits hardest because it feels less like a sales pitch and more like an email from a friend.

The Data-Backed Stat

Numbers speak louder than words. Every single time.

"61% of people are switching from alcohol to THC drinks" hits WAY harder than "people are switching from alcohol."

Doesn't matter if it's about how customers behave, the cost of skipping your product, or the science behind it… as long as the number is strong and relevant, build the email around that one stat.

Numbers do all the convincing for you.

The Single-Question FAQ

Most FAQ emails have 5-7 questions stacked on top of each other, but nobody is going to read all that.

Instead, build the entire email around just ONE question.

Whatever the biggest objection or hesitation people have about your product, have your founder answer it in depth, plain-text style, like they're talking directly to the customer.

No discount needed at the end!
