The Best Ecom Subject Lines (Steal These)

The Inbox Newsletter

Hey it’s Max from The Inbox Newsletter.
I get asked about subject lines all the time… so I figured I'd just give you the list.
These are the subject lines and preview text tricks that consistently outperform everything else across our 120+ brands.
It’s a good idea to steal them for yourself.

Subject Lines To Steal:
“Your Order Is Ready To Ship 📦”
For any cart or checkout abandonment email, this crushes. We've A/B tested this against "Forgetting something?" and "You left something behind" and it wins…Every. Single time.
“Quick Question {first_name}”
This just rips for opens... It makes it seem like it will be something quick. Make sure your actual headline inside is some sort of question so it delivers on the subject line.
“Didn't Plan On This”
Great for new product drops or a surprise sale.
3 Reasons For [product/benefit]
People love lists and numbers. Something about a number in the subject line just gets more opens.
“Beware”
Sounds weird but it works. Can be just the one word or a full sentence. The scare factor gets attention.
“Your [Product] Is Here”
Makes it feel like something is waiting for them personally…
We Owe You [XYZ] - If you're running a sale or something, frame it as "we owe you." People see that and think they need to open it.
“You've Got [XYZ]”
Using "you've got" instead of "get" feels like something has already been given to them. Psychologically way stronger.
“3. 2. 1...”
Great for any launch or sale. Numbers stand out in the inbox and the countdown creates urgency.
“POV:”
Works really well for younger audiences. You can keep at just POV or do something like “POV: Summer Is Here”
“For the [Identity]”
Frame it around who they are. "For the early risers." "For the gym at 5am crowd." Identity-based subject lines get opened.
Preview Texts:
Leave it completely empty
Forces curiosity. In Klaviyo's text editor you can just check a box to leave it blank. Most people don't do this and it stands out.
End it with "..."
Creates an open loop. I've tested this and it consistently gets more opens than preview text that finishes the thought.
BTW… If you want to actually see which of these subject lines are performing best on your account, we use Hiro Analytics for this.
SO easy to track and see what subject lines work best and for which reason.

Subject Line Tab In Hiro Analytics
It lets you pull up a single view with every subject line you've sent alongside the open rate, send time, and revenue.
Way easier than going through campaigns one by one, trying to piece it all together.
If you are serious about retention you should be using them.

Notes:
Banger sale email. The mystery + 100-customer cap is doing the heavy lifting, but the copy fits so well it doesn't feel like you're being sold to.
