Simple Offer Mistake Most Brands Make

The Inbox Newsletter

Hey it's Max from The Inbox Newsletter.

Most brands already offer some kind of discount on their site OR on a product at all times… which is fine and great.

But then they slap ANOTHER discount in the pop-up form that sounds way worse than the one already sitting on their site…

Today, I'm walking you through how to frame your discounts so your pop-up leads with the strongest offer and you make the most profit!

The Offer Mistake

Let's look at this brand…

As a brand, their goal is to push people toward the 3-pack ($139.90) over the single pack ($54.95) because it is bettyer economics for them.

The 3-pack is advertised as 15% off, which if you translate the value it is $25 OFF in actual dollars.

$25 OFF hits WAY harder than "15% off" in a shopper's brain.

That’s the first point…

Chronic Australia's 3-Pack Discount.

Chronic Australia's Pop-Up Form.

The second point… is their pop-up form offer.

They are pushing a WORSE offer than what is on the site!

The email sign-up and pop-up push $10 OFF…

Why lead with a worse-sounding $10 off when they're already giving away $25 off on the core offer?

Do you think your pop-up form and welcome flow would get more leads and conversions if you led with here’s $25 OFF rather than $10 off?

The answer is yes and our data backs it up.

Here's how they should be framing this instead, and how you should think about your offers too:

Option 1: Drop the pop-up discount completely.

Save the margins and just highlight the core offer you have for your main product on the site!

Make the pop-up say "You've Got $25 OFF!" and let the welcome flow drive people straight to the 3-pack page with discount already applied.

The added benefit to this is nobody's incentivized to grab the single pack because that discount only works on the 3-pack (which the brand wants people to buy)

It's a real margin saver when you're trying to push as many people toward the core offer without over-discounting.

To show you much offers can move the needle, take a look at this AB test we ran for a different brand by doing this same sort of offer test:

$25 OFF brought In 10.7% placed order rate.

Just by switching the pop-up offer to $25 OFF, we saw placed order rate jump from 3.3% to 10.7%!

This kind of strategy is why we run most of our brands on Alia. It's the easiest way to whip up pop-ups and A/B test offers like this.

Option 2: Keep $10 OFF… But Stack it to $35 OFF the 3-pack.

$25 off the 3-pack + $10 pop-up discount = $35 OFF total.

The brand is already giving this away but they’re telling customers they only get $10 off.

You're already giving this away…the customer just doesn't perceive it that way.

Make the pop-up say "You've Got $35 OFF!" and let the welcome flow break down the math for them.

Just make sure the discount only applies to the 3-pack, so single-pack buyers still pay full price and get pushed toward the core offer.

Either option lifts take rate, and pushes people toward the exact product you want them to buy.

Offer maxx your pop ups and welcome flows in 2026!!
