How To Get Claude Design To Actually Create Good Emails

The Inbox Newsletter

Hey it’s Max from The Inbox Newsletter.

Today, I'm talking about using Claude Design to create professional emails.

Claude Design is the new AI design tool from Anthropic.

And if you've tried using it only for the output to look too generic or unusable... this is probably why.

I've been running all of our brands' emails through this system and it genuinely creates professional emails in about 10 minutes.

But only when you give it the right context.

There are only two things that make the difference between a garbage output and something you can actually send:

1) A Design System

A design system is your branding inside Claude Design. You create one per brand and Claude uses it for every email going forward.

Inside of Claude Design go to Design Systems → Create.

Then upload everything you have for your brand... company name and a blurb, your website URL, brand guidelines PDF, fonts, logos, lifestyle imagery, and product photos.

If you have a Figma file of the website, upload that too.

Claude can actually read Figma files and the output quality jumps when you give it one.

This takes about 5 minutes to set up and you only have to do it once per brand. After that, it's locked in.

Now, the design system will tell Claude what the brand looks like, but it doesn't tell Claude what a good email looks like.

That's where the second piece comes in.

2) An Email Rules File

It’s one thing to have branding down…

It’s another to have AI actually create email design that convert.

I created a text file with my specific rules for how to create a high-performing ecommerce email. I attach it to every single email I create in Claude Design.

It covers things like the exact structure every email should follow, where your offer should live (hint: above the fold, always), CTA sizing and placement, and a list of things to never do.

Exactly like how a good designer would.

Save it to your computer and attach it when you create an email. Takes only 2 seconds.

The Final Product

With just a simple prompt like "create an educational email about our ingredients," Claude asks you the right questions first, follows a proven structure, nails the branding, and creates something you could actually send to a client.

The whole process from prompt to this email being finished took about 10-15 minutes.

A copywriter and designer building this from scratch would take at least 60 minutes.

This doesn't replace your designers and copywriters... it just lets them focus on the stuff AI still can't do.

You still need someone who knows what good looks like and can make the right calls on strategy.

If you want a team that does both, book a call with us here.

Notes:
This is fun. They turned those annoying CAPTCHAs you have to click through into the hero of their email. A very creative way to showcase products without the typical grid layout.
