How To Create Exceptional Abandoned Cart Emails

The Inbox Newsletter

Hey it’s Max from The Inbox Newsletter.

Today I want to share 4 things that separate an exceptional abandonment cart email from a generic one.

Abandonment emails are the simplest and most effective flows to recover revenue from… so it’s important that each send pulls its weight.

Let’s get into it!

4 Things That Make An Exceptional Abandonment Email

1) Put The Abandoned Product At The Top

The number one thing you want dialed in is making sure the dynamic product block is the very first thing a subscriber sees when they open the email.

Everyone is a doom scroller… so the first thing that grabs their attention NEEDS to be the exact product they left in their cart.

There’s no reason to put it buried halfway down the email where it’ll just get scrolled past like every other email in their inbox…

That instant recognition will reconnect them to the purchase they started.

2) Make The Copy Aggressive

What’s going to actually get you to walk out the door?

A friend texting “we might head out soon,” or one saying “we’re literally in the Uber already, come down”?

The same principle goes for your abandonment flows…

You want copy that pulls subscribers back in, frames the purchase like it’s already halfway done, and gives them a reason to actually finish the order they started.

So skip the “forgetting something?” headline and instead frame it as something like “your order is ready to ship.”

This leans into the inertia of a purchase they already started and makes it feel like they’re one step away from completing something they already set in motion…

3) Show Non-Buyers Their Welcome Discount

Someone who hasn’t bought from your brand yet still has their unused welcome discount sitting in their inbox from the welcome flow…

So split your abandonment flow by buyer vs non-buyer and add a section in the non-buyer version reminding them about the welcome offer they already got but never used.

Some subscribers really just need that reminder to push them over the line and actually complete the purchase they were considering in the first place!

4) Add Strong Education After The Hero

While some subscribers only need a quick reminder to come back and finish the purchase…

Others abandoned because they weren’t completely convinced on the product yet…

So this is the time educate!

The sections below the dynamic product block should break down the main benefits, overcome common objections, highlight your best reviews, or show what makes the product different from every other option on the market…

And there you have it!

Use these 4 elements and you’ll find that your abandonment flows convert way more effectively than it does today.

BTW, I share insights like this every single day in my private community which you can find here.
