How To Build Hype For Your Next Sale

The Inbox Newsletter

Hey it's Max from The Inbox Newsletter.

Got a fun tactic today you can use to build peak hype for your next sale.

It's probably one of the best ways to build anticipation across your list before a big promo drops.

Also, pretty perfect timing with BFCM right around the corner…

Let's get into it!

Count Down Timers

If your goal is to build hype leading up to a big sale, the best way to do it is by adding a simple countdown timer to your emails in the weeks before the promo drops.

Now I know what you're thinking…

"But countdown timers are supposed to count down when the sale ENDS, not when it starts."

And it's true. Most brands only use countdown timers during a sale to add urgency to the deadline.

But take a look at what BRÈZ is doing with them:

Timer Countdown At The Top Of Email

BRÈZ is using countdown timers to HYPE UP their birthday sale before it even goes live.

This works because instead of using the timer to push urgency at the end of a sale, they're using it as an anticipation tool that gets their entire subscriber base excited to buy the second Day 1 hits.

Bonus: if you want to take it a step further, you can even tease the offer inside the countdown timer email itself so subscribers know exactly what to expect when the sale drops.

Solid one to test before your next big sale.

Where To Actually Use It

This is peak timing for Q4 since you've got a ton of big sales coming up.

  • Halloween sale: drop a countdown timer 1-2 weeks before Halloween to build hype for your spooky season promo

  • Early BFCM: run a countdown timer in the days leading up to your early BFCM promo so subscribers know to expect it

  • Black Friday: drop a countdown timer 1-2 weeks before Black Friday to prime your entire list to buy the second Day 1 hits

  • Cyber Monday: run a countdown timer between Black Friday and Cyber Monday to keep momentum rolling into Cyber Week

  • December sales: drop a countdown timer leading up to any of your December promos or shipping deadlines to build hype/urgency for holiday gift buyers

And on top of your campaign calendar, you can also test this in your flows if you wanted to.

All you'd need to do is drop the countdown timer at the top of your emails and see how your subscribers respond.

Highly recommend giving this one a shot for your next big sale!

BTW, I share insights like this every single day in my private community which you can find here.

Email Inspiration Of The Day

Brand:
Casely

Notes:
This is a perfect example of a hero section communicating an offer during a sale. This brand clearly let people visualize what they were getting! In this case it was to buy one case, and get another free.
