How To Boost Open And Click Rates Without Changing A Thing About Your Emails

The Inbox Newsletter

Hey it's Max from The Inbox Newsletter.
Sharing a cool tactic today that we've been testing more recently.
It's honestly kind of laughable how simple it is to pull this off, but it really has a positive impact on results. You can literally set it up in your Klaviyo account before you even finish reading this newsletter lol.
Let's get into it!

Using Odd Send Times
Not a lot of brands are thinking about this right now, but you can actually boost your open and click rates without changing a single thing about your emails.
All you need to do…
Send at odd times.
The standard across pretty much every ecom brand is to send at flat top-of-the-hour times like 9:00 AM. 10:00 AM. 11:00 AM. etc...
But think about this from your subscriber's POV...
At 9:00 AM sharp, they're getting 5 or 6 emails hitting their inbox at the exact same time... So if your email lands in the middle of all the brands they've subscribed to, you can be sure it gets buried before they even scroll past the first two subject lines.
Now imagine your email hits the inbox at 9:12 AM instead...
There's no other brand's send in the inbox at that minute so the moment YOUR email lands… it gets seen and is clicked way more than a send buried in the 9:00 AM pile.
The Numbers And How To Apply It
Take a look at this low volume A/B test we ran recently:
We sent the same email to the same list, with everything identical except the send time. One version hit at 9:00 AM PST. The other hit at 9:42 AM PST.

AB Test Comparison
You can see that the 9:42 AM send hit 74.54% open rate and 1.04% click rate. The 9:00 AM send hit 72.53% open rate and 0.63% click rate.
That's a 2% lift on open rate and a 65% lift on click rate from moving the send time by 42 minutes.

Analytics Dashboard In Hiro Analytics
And take a look at the analytics that we pulled off this brand from Hiro Analytics…
You can see that the top 9 out of 10 campaigns we have sent in the past 60 days ALL have odd send times.
It includes times like 5:05 PM, 6:47 PM, 8:18 PM, and 5:16 PM… all landing on off-minutes instead of the top of the hour.
I'd highly recommend testing this on:
Product launches: sending at an odd minute so the launch email hits the inbox alone
Sales: sending your sale announcement at an off-minute to give the offer peak visibility on Day 1
Educational emails: sending at an odd time to boost open rates on the sends that build brand trust
Try it out and see what the data shows you for yourself!
BTW, I share insights like this every single day in my private community which you can find here.
