Claude Design Just Dropped... and it Broke the Internet

The Inbox Newsletter

Hey it’s Max from The Inbox Newsletter.

AI email design may be here…

Claude Design dropped on Friday and it broke the internet.

People were posting prototypes, landing pages, and full app mockups.

Figma's stock dropped 7% in hours. Needless to say, it was chaos.

I wanted to see what it could do for email…

So I tested it over the weekend.

The results we got were insane.

Step 1: Feed It Your Branding, Or Past Emails

I uploaded a Figma file with a brand’s past emails we had been working on.

Claude Design read all of it and locked in the brand identity before I even wrote a prompt.

Step 2: Prompt it like you're briefing a designer

This is the most important part.

If you type "make me a promotional email" you'll get something generic.

You have to be specific.

Tell it the product, the angle, the layout, the tone.

Brief it the same way you'd brief a real designer.

It produced these three emails, all of which were on-brand and almost ready to ship:

Step 3: Export and drop it into your ESP

You can export as HTML, PDF, or send it straight to Canva where it becomes fully editable.

Pull it into Klaviyo, add in your links, and you're live.

The catch

Usage limits are rough right now.

People are reporting they hit the cap within 20 minutes or just a few prompts. So you're not going to sit down and crank out a full month of emails in one session.

At least, not yet.

But even with the limits, think about what this means for the brands that tell us "we can't send more than 4 emails a month because we don't have the design bandwidth."

That excuse just got a lot harder to justify.

Notes:
Brightland brand built the entire email around the gifting experience, from the ready-to-gift box in the hero image to customer reviews that sell the feeling instead of the product.
